At Motorcraft Adventure Developments, we specialise in engineering expedition platforms that are built to go further, last longer, and perform where others simply can’t. This MAN HX77 8×8 is a perfect example of that philosophy - and a genuine milestone for us as a business.
This project represents a true world first: the first-ever four-point torsion-free subframe fitted to a MAN HX77. Designed, engineered, and built in-house by our team at Motorcraft, it pushes the HX77 platform into completely new territory.

Starting at the Very Beginning
From day one, this build was about doing things properly. The HX77 arrived with us and was stripped back to a bare chassis, allowing our engineers to design the platform from the ground up rather than adapting off-the-shelf solutions.
Working closely with One Life, Truck It, we developed a bespoke four-point torsion-free subframe, engineered specifically for the unique demands of an 8×8 chassis. The goal was simple but ambitious: allow full chassis articulation in extreme terrain while keeping the habitation structure completely isolated, stable, and protected. This subframe was a major achievement from technical engineering standpoint.
A Platform Built to Carry a Home

Mounted to the subframe is a 9.5-metre custom habitation box, built to support long-term, off-grid expedition travel. The box features:
Integrated doors and windows
A rear slide-out platform
Full exterior paint and finish
Structural design optimised for harsh environments
The result is a platform that’s incredibly strong, exceptionally stable, and ready for some of the toughest terrain on the planet - exactly what an HX77 should be.
A Personal Journey for One Life, Truck It
While this is a landmark project for us at Motorcraft, it’s also a deeply personal journey for Bobby. This truck forms the foundation of his long-term expedition plans and the centrepiece of an ongoing build series that documents the entire process.
Recently, Bobby collected the truck from our factory - a huge milestone for everyone involved. Although the interior isn’t finished yet, the HX77 is now fully road-ready, marking the official start of the next phase of the build.

What Comes Next
Over the coming months, Bobby’s build series will cover the full interior fit-out, systems installation, design decisions, and challenges involved in turning this platform into a fully self-sufficient expedition vehicle.
For us at Motorcraft, this is exactly why we do what we do - creating the engineering foundation that allows our customers’ ideas, adventures, and ambitions to become reality. This MAN HX77 8×8 showcases our approach as a business: no shortcuts, no compromises, and engineering-led design from start to finish. We’re incredibly proud of what the team has delivered and excited to see where this truck goes next.
